This example illustrates how to define location hierarchy, the main location ACME Inc. has four main areas Clean Room 01, Clean Room 02, Test Lab and Shipping with the following hierarchical structure:
-
ACME Inc. - Complete enterprise
- Clean Room 01
- Clean Room 02
-
Test Lab
- Electronics Inventory
-
ESD Zone
- Test Station 01
- Test Station 02
-
Shipping
- Inventory Room
'Clean Room 01', 'Clean Room 02', 'Test Lab' and 'Shipping' all have the same parent location i.e. ACME Inc.
'Electronics Inventory' and 'ESD Zone' have the same parent location Test Lab.
'Test Station 01' and 'Test Station 02' have the same parent location 'ESD Zone'.
'Inventory Room' has the parent location 'Shipping'.
We assume that all the different locations have already been created for this example. To configure the hierarchy of the locations ACME Inc., Clean Room 01, Clean Room 02, Test Lab and Shipping we use the Parent Location Name entry in the location form as illustrated below.
-
ACME Inc. - Complete enterprise
- Clean Room 01
- Clean Room 02
- Test Lab
- Shipping
'Clean Room 01', 'Clean Room 02', 'Test Lab' and 'Shipping' all have the same parent location i.e. ACME Inc.
Now we have configured the first two hierarchy levels in the system. To set the Test Lab sub hierarchy levels we complete the steps illustrated in the figure below:
-
Test Lab
- Electronics Inventory
-
ESD Zone
- Test Station 01
- Test Station 02
'Electronics Inventory' and 'ESD Zone' have the same parent location Test Lab.
'Test Station 01' and 'Test Station 02' have the same parent location 'ESD Zone'.
Repeat the procedure above for the last remaining 'Inventory Room' hierarchy configuration and the whole structure is complete.
-
Shipping
- Inventory Room
'Inventory Room' has the parent location 'Shipping'.
