The Part State of a Part Record is determined by the Traveler on which the Part Record is located. On the Flow Definition you can define the Part State for when a Traveler is Active, and the Part State for when the Traveler is Done.
The only exceptions are Part Records that are not connected to Travelers. This can happen when parts are being ordered, or when parts are consumed.
Part State Values
Part States can have the following values:
- ORD: On Order, the Part Records are connected to a Purchase Order
How to create Parts by Creating New Purchase Orders
- RMI: Raw Material Inventory. Used for materials that can be used to create other products.
- How Part States control Inventory Management
- WIP: Work In Process. Normally used to show that a Part is on an Active Production Traveler
- Consumed: Part state for parts that are consumed by other parts.
- Hold: Used to capture nonconforming material
- Scrapped: Parts that are Scrapped and cannot be recovered.
- FGI: Finished Goods Inventory. Used for products that are ready to be shipped to customers
- How Part States conrol Inventory Management
- Shipped: Products that are actually shipped
- Deleted: For parts that are deleted in the system, this could happen because they were created by accident
Custom Part States
Custom Part States, also known as 'Virtual Parts', can be defined within the Part Definition form on the States tab. This option can helpful in distinguishing a single Part Definition in various stages of development without having to create an entire new Part Definition.
Suppose you have a Part that can be in a 'Inspected' State and in a 'Non-Inspected'. You may not want to have seperate Part Numbers for the two States, so by creating unique States, it now allows you to have counts of each State created. Its can be considered a VP, or 'Virtual Part'.
Changing Part States
The following figure shows a schematic presentation of the different Part States that Part Records can have during their life cycle. NOTE: The shown arrows are not fixed and during the configuration you will be able to make any part state transition you need.
The Part State can be set and changed in a number of ways:
- Moving Travelers
Traveler are connected to Flow Definitions. The Flow Definition determines the Part State of the Part Records that are connected to a Traveler. Different Part States can be defined for when the Traveler is Active or when the Traveler is Done (Closed / Finished).
- Moving Parts to another Traveler
The Traveler defines the Part State of the Part Records on a Traveler, so if a Part Record is moved to another Traveler, it will change the Part State Value to the Value of the new Traveler.
- Purchase Order and Shipping
Besides moving a Traveler or moving Part Records, Part Records can change state if they are placed on a Purchase Order, or if they are Shipped. If Part Records are created by using Inventory Adjustment they will get either the RMI or FGI Part State.
- Consumption of Parts
When parts are consumed by parts their Part State Value will change to Consumed.
Process States
Beside the Part State a Part Record has a Process State.
